I’ve been watching the development of this technology with more than a passing fascination. I honestly haven’t seen any other robot this far along as far as mobility is concerned. Asimo is no slouch in the smarts department either. In 2002 Honda developed something they refer to as “Intelligence Technology”. This advancement endows Asimo with the ability to recognize moving objects, postures, gestures, and even respond to his name being called. It’s sensors allow it to navigate through his environment, recognize faces of up to 10 pre-registered people and communicate messages to them and guide them. It even has network integration and internet connectivity. I don’t know about you but I’m very intrigued by this and really want to see how far they go with him. Just imagine if the day comes when we can actually purchase one of these as easily as you would by any other household appliance. Think of the benefit it could be for people with disabilities who just can’t get around on their own.
